Meet the KPPA Board

Welcome to the website of the Kansas Professional Photographers Association.  Our organization was founded in 1950 with the goal to educate and to promote fellowship between
Kansas professional photographers.

Starting in June 2007, you placed your trust in me to continue to serve the KPPA in a new role as President of this wonderful organization.  My hopes for this year and the next are for each of us to acheive a little more than we thought we could and enjoy our
profession, friends, and families more than we thought we could.

The trends in our industry seem to have shifted from consistent reliable traditions in photography to consumer driven trends, fashion sense, and ever progressing innovation.  I am also a trained IT professional, and change has always been part of what I do.

Meet the Board of Directors

My years spent learning and honing my skills as a photographer pale in comparison to the potential and adaptations required to succeed in today's industry. Is it something each and every one of us can do? I say yes, and for each of us it will leave us even more creative, driven and successful. Each of us must become not only successful photographers, but also marketers, business managers, innovators, risk takers, and dreamers. Who would have ever thought trends like "the drudge look", "soft posing", and even "trash the dress (from seniors to weddings)" would become desirable by our clients?
What does that mean for you? It means you are now able to try and do things only dreamed of in the past.

Thinking outside of the box is now part of your creative drive. I'm not advocating totally abandoning what you have learned in the areas of proper lighting, posing, and composition. In each of these trends the basic rules still apply, but in much more contemporary fashion. That's why our seminars, the conventions you go to, and even the schools you attend are more important than ever. KPPA will have an outstanding seminar in Hutchinson, KS this fall, Oct 6-7, 2007, and also a winter seminar in Topeka, KS, Febuary 9-10, 2008. The Heart of America Convention is our state convention, April 11-15, 2008, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The yearly Kansas Professional Photographers School will be in Newton, KS, June 1-5, 2008. Time to learn and succeed, much is to be gained for us all, so get involved and lets learn and grow together.
